Our Mission
About Font Finder
Font Finder was built with a simple, developer-friendly goal: to democratize typography by matching expensive, commercial typefaces with high-quality, 100% free open-source alternatives.
Why We Built This
In modern web development, typography represents a major design asset but also a significant budget bottleneck. Paid typefaces from major font foundries often cost anywhere from $35 to hundreds of dollars per font weight. For indie hackers, startups, and open-source projects, these licensing fees can be prohibitive.
Fortunately, the open-source community has designed incredible typefaces that match or exceed the quality of commercial classics. Font Finder is designed to bridge this gap, helping you identify proprietary fonts and instantly mapping them to free, commercially-licensed alternatives.
Our Core Technology
Font Finder uses two key stages to match your images or queries:
Trait Classification
We calculate geometric properties such as x-height, stroke weight, letter spacing, serif structures, and contrast ratio to map key visual properties.
Comparison Engine
By rendering character specimens in sandbox frames, we map precise glyph coordinates and cross-reference them against open-source alternatives.
100% Open Source and Free
Every primary font matched and listed on our platform is licensed under open licenses, primarily the SIL Open Font License (OFL) or the Apache 2.0 License. This means you are completely free to use them in:
- Commercial websites and web applications
- Mobile and desktop software
- Printed materials, logo designs, and vector artwork
- E-books and digital publications
Our Team
Font Finder is founded and developed by Aryan Dabas. Supported by an open-source community of designers and developers, we work to curate, fingerprint, and map web typography to make high-quality typography accessible to everyone.
